Christmas 2022

As we move to the Christmas Break, we want to offer a massive THANK YOU! To everyone who braved the cold on Saturday 3rd December and attended our Christmas Lights Switch On.

We were delighted to learn that across the day we had over 8,000 additional visitors to the High Street. That’s back to pre-covid level and we could not be more thrilled.

Over 350 children performed from across the borough on our Main Stage, and live music throughout the day organised by The Sound Lounge on the lower stage near ASDA. Walkabout acts including Naughty and Nice Elves, Stilt Walkers, Circus Workshop, Gingerbread Men and the Grinch entertained up and down the High Street and FREE face painting was on offer throughout the day.

We delivered activities inside our St Nicholas Centre too with pop up dance and singing performances, walk about acts and a FREE circus workshop.

It was a great event to take us into the Festive Season for our High Street and we hope those who came to visit will return and spend some more time with our businesses who fund this event through the BID every year.  We deliver this event to drive footfall and interest to our Town Centre and give a pre Christmas boost to our many business members. Given the difficulties of the past couple of years, it was important that this event delivered. With so much coming up for 2023 by way of events and projects to deliver for our district, this was a great day to end 2022 and drives us even more to make next year even better!

Thank you to all our performers

This type of event takes a lot of organisation and running on the day, and we could not have done that without the help of a lot of local businesses and volunteers, so another well deserved thank you to:
