Levy payers using our free mixed recycling service have collectively saved nearly 40 tonnes of waste from going into landfill in the scheme’s first year of operation.
The amount of waste sent for recycling has gone up steadily since the scheme was introduced in June 2013, with our delivery partner, First Mile seeing the biggest rise in May.
Over seven tonnes of waste was collected from participating businesses in May, saving 51 trees and 11 tonnes of CO2, according to figures published by First Mile.
As well as supporting Sutton Council’s initiatives for a green borough, the free kerbside scheme is helping businesses boost their bottom line, said Ross Feeney, Successful Sutton’s CEO: “Providing value for money for our levy payers is a significant priority for Successful Sutton. Our mixed recycling service ensures every levy payer benefits whilst at the same time ensuring we contribute towards a sustainable economy.
“I am delighted we have been able to make significant savings for our levy payers over the last 12 months and divert such a significant amount of recyclable waste from landfill”.
Successful Sutton aims to double the number of levy payers using the mixed recycling service from 40 to 80 in the scheme’s second year.
