Sutton proves popular with shoppers in 2014

More visitors are choosing to shop in Sutton, according to latest footfall figures.

Sutton High Street attracted an average of 2 million shoppers* a month in the six months to October, with the biggest monthly increases seen in June (2.5 million) and September (2.4 million).

The data, provided by Springboard, also showed that visitor numbers increased by more than 100,000 in October compared with the same month last year.

The figures suggest that retail confidence is on a high, as more consumers choose Sutton as their preferred shopping destination.

Ross Feeney, CEO of Successful Sutton said: “The steady rise in visitor numbers to the High Street is encouraging news, and can only be a good thing for retailers. One of our aims is to increase footfall in Sutton and we think we have helped to achieve this through local initiatives and events, ranging from our Sunset Cinema screenings to historical walking tours.

“Our recent Christmas lights switch on attracted tens of thousands of people, and we’re expecting a further boost in visitor numbers in the run up to Christmas.”
